Landing White Ibis (5x7in Transparent Watercolor)

A few years ago I went on a winter trip to southern Florida to photograph birds with my brother Ted. He kindly sponsored the whole trip.  We had a fantastic time even if the weather wasn’t the most cooperative. The highlight of the trip for me was getting to spend time together. The fact that we were getting to see and photograph a ton of great birds was the icing on the cake. One morning we had good shooting conditions at Little Estero Lagoon. Watching the birds come in to feed was great. It was loads of fun trying to get photos of the birds in flight. This painting is based on shots I got there of a white ibis landing. I decided to do this painting for my brother’s birthday.

Thanks for sharing, Matt. I’m impressed with the number of steps to get the look you want. I’m sure your brother will love his present. It looks great.

Thanks Sam! Its pretty typical for these to have that many layers to build the depth and detail.
