The winters in Michigan can sometimes seem long and frigid. As compensation for the cold, we get treated by some great winter visitors. Some are common, but charming, like juncos. Others, like redpolls and siskins only appear in our area in the harsher winters.

Redpolls are hearty members of the finch family that occasionally make appearances at our thistle feeders. They are unbelievably well adapted to the frigid weather. The sight of these beautiful birds really warms you up on a bitter cold day.
