Blue jays area regulars visitor to our peanut feeder. I drilled out a log on my drill press so I could fill it up with peanuts. Its a bit more natural looking than the mass produced feeders. Having the birds perched in a more organic setting is great for drawings and paintings. The woodpeckers tear these home made feeders to pieces when they empty out. They are certain that there are more peanuts shoved deep in the holes. The woodpeckers, who take one peanut at a time, have much better manners than the jays. The jays will fill up their crops with about 10 peanuts, cache them somewhere and come back for another load. They can empty the feeder in no time, which gets pretty expensive. Jays might not have the most admirable behaviors, but there is no denying that they are attractive birds.
