It seems to me that the American Robin could use better PR. Its true that they aren’t as flashy as the European Robins and they lack the spectacular calls of some of the other thrushes. Robins are in virtually every backyard keeping us all safe from earthworms. They are very friendly birds, often choosing to nest close to our houses. Ask a child to draw a bird and 8/10 times I’d bet its a robin. That same child’s first magical glimpse at a bird’s nest to see eggs or nestlings was probably the ubiquitous American robin. What great ambassadors to the bird world. I actually think that if they were a little less common, they be much more appreciated. If you take the time to REALLY look at them they are spectacular birds.
