In the spring and summer we have an almost continual flow of these attractive birds at the feeder. We often hear them cracking away at the white-striped sunflower seeds that we put out for them. For a few reasons they remind me of our pet parrots. First off there is that enormous seed cracking bill. Like our parrots, they seem intelligent and friendly, allowing the kids to get right next to the feeder. I’m always disappointed when they leave the area in the fall.
