I pretty much paint for my own amusement, not really thinking much about potentially selling the artwork. When I start on an insect, it does occur to me that I’m likely one of very few people in the world interested in this particular creature.
I love macro photography and like to take pictures of all the microfauna in our gardens. When we moved into our house over 20 years ago, there were only a handful of foundation plantings and four small spruce trees. My wife and I planted gardens all over the place in the hopes of attracting birds, butterflies, insects and other wildlife. I’d say it was a great success.
Oblong Wool Carder Bees are one of the interesting insects our plants host. Although they are an introduced species, they sure look cool and are fascinating to watch. Their stocky bodies and big spotty eyes were begging to be painted.
